Thousands of food lovers are expected to descend on the borough this weekend for the inaugural North Shields Proper Food and Drink Festival.
More than 80 stalls will be errected on Northumberland Square for what promises to be one of the biggest stand alone food festivals in the north east.
Town manager John Fleet said: “We are delighted that Proper Food and drink festivals chose this location for their first event, and we are excited to see all the great food and drink exhibitors that will be attending.”
Festival organiser Mark Deakin added: “We couldn’t imagine a better place to launch our first event.
“The square is a great urban open space and we will be delighted to put it to great use hosting this event, we hope to see it turned it a great eating and drinking area for the two days of the festival.”
Stalls selling artisan foods to eat in the open air eating area or to take away will come from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Scotland.
The event will run on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, from 10am to 5pm.
