POLICE are this week continuing to appeal for information following a rape in Wallsend.

In the early hours of Friday March 15, a 27-year-old woman was walking home alone near Archer Street after she had been on a night out with friends.

But between 2,30am and 3am she was attacked, dragged into nearby bushes and raped.

Her attacker is described as being in his late 20s, of medium build and with a shaved head.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing dark, a dark long sleeve top - possibly a jumper - trousers and black dress style shoes.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in or around Archer Street on Friday morning and saw anyone fitting the man’s description or saw anyone acting suspiciously.

Detective Inspector Paul Race of Northumbria Police’s Rape Investigation Team said: “We are continuing to make enquiries in the local area and we are still asking that anyone who saw anything suspicious come forward.

“If you have information about this attack, please contact one of our officers on the 101 non-emergency number or alternatively call Crimestopppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Additional patrols continue to be carried out in the area.

North Tyneside Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Steve Neill, added: “Incidents of this nature are very unusual and extremely traumatic for the victim.

“We are working with the victim and her family and supporting them as much as we can at this time.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in the area on Friday morning, they may have seen the offender or heard something and the information they have could be crucial in helping us to catch the person responsible.”
