YOUNGSTERS at an out of school club have been proving that dogs are a man’s best friend.

Children at a Wallsend school have been making some new four-legged friends thanks to a series of lessons based on the theme of pets.

Pupils from Redesdale Out of School Club decided to make some dog biscuits for animals at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Benton after learning about pets.

The children spent time making the dog and bone shaped biscuits from a popular Cesar Millan recipe, which they then handed out to the dogs at the shelter last Friday.

Heather Johnson, from the club, said: “The kids have been making dog biscuits all week to bring to the dogs.

“As part of our lessons we have been looking at how not all pets have homes, and about sensibile and responsible ownership.

“They have been really excited about making the biscuits and giving them to the dogs.”
