An offshore training company is opening up the jobs market for electricians and engineers.
AIS Training, based in North Shields, has received a licence to run the CompEx Electrical course, an international qualification which trains electrical workers and engineers to work in potentially explosive atmospheres, like those found offshore or in the chemical and heavy industrial sectors.
The five-day course, endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive, covers a wide range of practical and theoretical subjects.
Paul Stonebanks, managing director of AIS, said: “This new course is excellent news for electricians or engineers looking for a job offshore.
“The sector is currently experiencing massive skills shortages and numerous lucrative job opportunities exist for skilled personnel.”

AIS has invested in a new bespoke electrical training and assessment facility, part of a wider investment programme which will see a new £2.4m offshore survival centre open in the spring.
Mr Stonebanks added: “We’re now one of only a handful of centres across the globe to be able to offer all the training and competency testing needed to help electrical personnel and engineers pursue a new offshore career or simply enhance their existing one.
“We’ve invested heavily in fantastic world-class facilities and an exceptional course portfolio to create a unique training village of 11 bespoke centres over 130,000 square feet, which truly is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for training and competency testing in the offshore sector.
“From emergency fire training to rigging and lifting, rope access and blaster painter qualifications we provide realistic and world-class instruction in any skill needed offshore.”
