A former Whitley Bay woman is preparing to run a half marathon in Canada to raise money to help people recovering from a stroke.
Kathryn Dixon is running the event in Vancouver on Sunday, May 4, for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Bright Charity, which raises funds to provide the extras that are not usually funded by the NHS.
The money will go towards Living with Stroke, a series of events held in North Tyneside, Morpeth and Hexham supported by Bright, where people who have had a stroke and their carers get together to share experiences, ways of coping and learn about services that can help them in their area.
The next event is May 23.
Kathryn, 42, said: “Never did I think that catching the running bug would take me quite so far, but I am very excited at the opportunity to run in such a beautiful city.
“Once more I will be raising some money for Bright Northumbria, which works to ensure that patients have the best experience possible in hospitals and community services in Northumberland and North Tyneside.”
