Keane seeks a lift from Arsenal game

ROY Keane is looking for a lift against Arsenal on Sunday after his "most disappointing week as a manager".

The Sunderland boss admits he's found it hard to expel the memory of his side's performance in their 2-0 loss at Bolton last weekend.

It was the Black Cats' 20th league defeat of the season, and, though he hasn't put himself through the agony of reviewing the game on DVD, Keane's memories of it are fresh.

"Some of the staff have watching it again, but I haven't," he said.

"I don't think I needed to do that.

"There is no time to relax in football, and I think one or two of our players relaxed too much. It's something I can't tolerate.

"I think this has been my disappointing week as a manager.

"There has been progress at the club, but I look back at the last performance and I think the penny has dropped that there is so much hard work ahead."

Sunderland confirmed their Premier League survival with a thrilling 3-2 home win against Middlesbrough two weekends ago, but performed woefully at Bolton.

And Keane emphasised that he does not consider survival as an occasion for hanging out the bunting.

He said: "I think we can be satisfied we're in the Premier League next year, but there is nothing to celebrate.

"Last year we were getting invites for open-top bus tours and whatever, but this club should not see promotion as a celebration, and staying in the Premier League should not be a celebration.

"I think I must be a naturally miserable person, but what's important now is that we refocus on the Arsenal game on Sunday and put in the right performance."
