Knitters called on to create woolly hats

Knitters across North Tyneside are being asked to flex their creative muscles and knit little woolly hats to support the work of their local Age UK.

The woolly hats will adorn innocent smoothie bottles in stores nationwide from November and for each one sold, the firm will give 25p to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign, helping local older people stay warm and well during the winter months.

Age UK North Tyneside have the challenge of knitting 1,500 hats by September 24 and need knitters of all ages to help make this a reality.

Alma Caldwell, chief executive at Age UK North Tyneside, said: “Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it’s really important that local knitters get behind The Big Knit to help raise funds for vital local winter projects.

“We need knitters to help us reach our goal so that we can continue to provide a lifeline to older people through a range of services, including Information and Advice.”

To source knitting patterns, or to donate knitted hats, contact Age UK North Tyneside at the Bradbury Centre on Saville Street West, North Shields, or call (0191) 280 8484.

Alternatively a donation can be made to Age UK North Tyneside Spread the warmth campaign by texting AGNT27 £2 or AGNT27 £5 to 70070.
