Life on the open seas

editorial image

CHILDREN got the chance to experience life on the seas – although the vessel was still in the dock.

The Percy Hedley Foundation’s affiliated warship, HMS Dauntless, recently berthed at North Shields for a series of events on Tyneside.

The Type 45 destroyer has been linked to the disability charity since 2010.

During the ships visit to the region six crew members visited the Percy Hedley Foundation’s Able 2 Day Services, where they took part in activities including ceramics, cookery and horticulture.

The following day two lucky pupils from Percy Hedley School got the chance to go onboard the warship and were shown around by Rob Hines, the deputy weapons engineering officer.
