THE man accused of murdering 25-year-old Ryan Armstrong has made his first appearance in court.

Liam Kennedy is accused of stabbing Mr Armstrong in the early hours of Saturday morning following a house party in Burn Closes Crescent.

During the short hearing at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, Kennedy spoke to confirm his date of birth and address, Martin Road in Wallsend.

Prosecutor David Thompson requested the defendant be remanded in custody until his next court appearance, which is due to be at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday.

Defending 21-year-old Kennedy, Mark Harrison, said his client denied any involvement in what happened.

He added: “He is devastated, as are his family who are at the back of court.”

As well as members of Kennedy’s family, friends of Ryan Armstrong also sat in on the court hearing on Monday morning.

Mr Armstrong was declared dead at the RVI in Newcastle in the early hours of Saturday morning after being stabbed in the street.

In a short statement, the family of the 25-year-old said he was a lovely man.

It read: “He was a hard working lad who was a lovely man. We are a close family.”

Three women aged, 19, 45 and 25 have been bailed pending further enquiries, along with a 19-year-old man.

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man have been released with no further action.
