Man injured after being struck by train in Wallsend
A 42-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a train in Wallsend last night.
Services between Wallsend and North Shields were halted immediately after the incident, which happened at 6.20pm when the train was leaving Hadrian Road metro station.
Northumbria police confirmed the man had been taken to hospital with serious injuries and that his next of kin have been informed.
The Metro was suspended for two hours, re-opening at 8.20pm.
A spokesperson for Nexus said an investigation is underway to establish what happened.
