Man rescued from sea off Whitley Bay

A man is in intensive care after being pulled from the sea near Whitley Bay.

Rescue teams were called to the Promenade just after 8.15am today (Saturday) following concerns for a man who had been spotted in the sea.

Crews from Cullercoats RNLI lifeboat were quickly on scene and found the 53-year-old man opposite the High Point Hotel.

He was taken to Rake Lane Hospital where he is currently in the ITU department.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident or might have seen the man in this area to get in touch with them on 101, quoting log number 443 of 31/05/14.
