Man slashed and sprayed with noxious substance in Wallsend

A Wallsend man is receiving hospital treatment after being sprayed with a noxious substance and slashed in across the back.

It happened on Sunday, March 30, at 10.37pm at the Duke of York Pub, on High Street West.

Officers were called to the premises and found a 32-year-old man with injuries, he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is still receiving treatment although his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact them. Officers want to trace customers who were in the pub at the time and who may have witnessed the incident.
