Mayor backs campaign to create entrepreneurs

A NEW campaign aims to boost the number of entrepreneurs in the borough.

The Federation of Small Businesses has received the backing of North Tyneside Mayor Linda Arkley for its Real Life Entrepreneurs campaign.

Mrs Arkley has signed up as a real life entrepreneur champion for the initiative, which highlights how those who have taken a risk to set up their own business will be responsible for creating much needed growth and employment opportunities in the north east.

The campaign calls on the government to help entrepreneurs by increasing routes to finance, simplifying the tax system, tackling late payment and incentivising job creation.

Mrs Arkley said: “In North Tyneside we are absolutely committed to doing all we can to support small businesses, and last year we helped start-up over 250 new businesses, creating over 180 jobs.

“We already have some excellent small businesses in the borough which are fantastic examples of how creativity and endeavour, combined with entrepreneurial spirit and the right support, can create highly successful and sustainable ventures, and I would love to see more of that.

“Successful small businesses provide vital services and benefits to residents and much-needed employment opportunities, and are extremely important if we are to move toward a more healthy economic future.”

Ted Salmon, FSB north east regional chairman, said: “We are delighted that Mrs Arkley has signed up as a champion and are jointly committed to supporting real life entrepreneurs to grow and prosper.

“By celebrating the successes that local entrepreneurs are achieving in the area will help to inspire more to take the plunge and start up in business.

“We both recognise the hard work that North Tyneside’s real life entrepreneurs do for the local area and with more support will help the local economy to grow.”
