Mother and child threatened by burglar

A MOTHER and her young child were threatened by a burglar who broke into their Wallsend home at the weekend.

At 9.32pm on Saturday, February 18, police received a report that a man had gone inside a house at Matfen Gardens in Wallsend. He threatened the occupants before leaving the scene, between 9pm and 9.30pm.

The man is described as white, aged in his mid 20s, about 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall of thin build, with short blond hair and wearing a blue zipped hooded top and jeans. It is believed he was in possession of a knife.

The occupants at the time – a woman aged in her 20s and her young child – were not injured during the incident but were left shaken.

DS Lorraine Wardle said: “It’s not thought, at this time, that this address was randomly targeted, however, we are keeping an open mind as enquiries continue.

“Thankfully the woman and her child were not injured in the incident but obviously they were left shaken. Additional patrols are being carried out by local officers to reassure people in the area that all is being done to trace the man responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
