New appeal for man who fell from moving taxi

POLICE are renewing their appeal for help after a 21-year-old North Shields man who suffered serious injuries after falling from a moving taxi.

He was found at 2.05am on Saturday, March 29, unconscious on Norham Road, North Shields, 15 metres north of the junction with Verne Road.

This man had been in a black Fiat Diablo private hire taxi travelling south on Norham Road, when for reasons yet to be established, he exited the vehicle sustaining serious head injuries.

He remains in a critical condition in Newcastle General ITU.

PC Ally Hall, Motor Patrols at North Shields said: "We are continuing to investigate this unusual incident.

"We need to establish the circumstances which led to this young man receiving these injuries when he fell from a moving vehicle, and to do this we need help from the public.

"We know he and two other men had been picked up on Hillheads Road in Whitley Bay and the two other men were dropped off at the junction of the A1058 Coast Road and Norham Road a short time before the injured man fell, and we urgently need to trace these two men as we feel they could be valuable witnesses."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward particularly the two men who had earlier been in the taxi in the company of the injured man.

The first man is described as 5ft 9" of slim build with short spiked dyed blonde hair and a Bradford accent. He had what appeared to be the start of a goatee-style beard.

The second man is also described as being 5ft 9", of slightly larger build than the first man, with short dark hair and was clean shaven.

Both men exited the taxi and walked towards Chollerford Avenue.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact motor patrols in North Tyneside on 03456 043043 ext 63848.
