A new contract for recycling materials has been approved as two authorities look to save money.

North Tyneside and Newcastle City councils have joined forces to appoint a contractor to sort and bale household materials collected by the two authorities.

The six-year contract – awarded to O’Brien Waste Recycling Solutions in Willington Quay – was launched last week with the aim of helping the councils make improved annual savings.
