A new gym has been set up to help provide physiotherapy for youngsters who suffer from cerebral palsy.
The physio unit has been set up in the Angels of the North’s depot on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate for the exclusive use of young children who have had or are going to have life-changing surgery to get them back on their feet.
The youngsters suffering from cerebral palsy have each undergone a pioneering operation at St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri, that involves surgery and electrically stimulating muscles to the spine to help them walk.
The charity’s honorary chief executive officer Barbara Connors-Fowler said: “By using our gym the children can all be together and encourage each other.”
Specialist physiotherapists cost the six families more than £30,000 a year.
