A parish hall has re-opened to the community thanks to a fundraising initiative.
St Peter’s Parish Hall has served the Balkwell estate in North Shields for more than 80 years.
And dignitaries, residents and users were on hand to officially re-open the new look hall, which had been paid for in part thanks to a £20,000 grant from SITA UK and nearly £9,000 from Partners In Community Action, a Newcastle Diocesan fund.
The money has provided a new roof, double glazed winders, safer lighting, disabled access ramp, redecoration and more storage space.
North Tyneside Council chairman Coun Janet Hunter performed the honours to open the hall, used by a wide range of groups.
She said: “There are some jobs that are far more enjoyable than others and this is the sort of thing I really enjoy doing.
“It is wonderful to attend occasions like this and meet such committed people particularly the young uniformed groups.”
