Newcastle Building Society opens flagship Gibraltar branch

A NEW phase in Newcastle Building Society's long-term investment in Gibraltar has begun with the official opening of a new flagship branch on the territory.

The British Governor to Gibraltar, Sir Robert Fulton KBE, joined Newcastle chief executive Colin Seccombe for a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony at the branch on the bustling Main Street .

The special event was also attended by a number of businesspeople, long-standing Society customers and other civic dignitaries, including Louis Wink, Commissioner of Gibraltar Royal Police, and Marcus Killick, Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.

As the part of the Newcastle 's commitment to the local community, a cheque for 1,500 from the Newcastle Community Foundation was presented to the Childline Gibraltar project, which has been nominated by branch staff as their Charity of the Year 2009.

The Newcastle has more than 11,000 members in Gibraltar , and has had a continuous presence in the region since 1990.

Colin Seccombe said: "Newcastle Building Society has successfully offered a full range of services to members in Gibraltar for nearly two decades, and we have invested in creating this new flagship branch to ensure we have the right facilities in place to continue to do so in the long-term."

Senior Branch Manager in Gibraltar, Stephen Maloney, added: "Our opening event was a fantastic opportunity to meet many of our members who have been so loyal to the Newcastle over the years.

"The new branch is at the heart of the territory's well-known shopping district, and is ideally placed to make our operations on the island even more successful in the coming years."
