A new initiative to implement more efficient systems in GP practices has help a health group win a national award.
NHS North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) won the Sharing Best Practice award from the Lean Healthcare Academy.
Officials at the CCG worked with staff at three GP practices to eradicate waste and duplication while improving patient experience.
Wally Charlton, transformation and change manager at North Tyneside CCG, said: “It’s fantastic to have your work recognised by your peers and colleagues.
“By working with staff and mapping out their work processes, we were able to simplify certain tasks, eradicate waste and free up more of their time to engage with patients.
“We have been able to help staff complete their tasks more quickly and efficiently which means that patients are getting a better service.”
The team initially worked with staff from the West Farm surgery, Longbenton; the Priory Medical Group, North Shields; and the Earsdon Park practice at Shiremoor.
They simplified processes for a range of tasks from sorting the post to managing prescriptions to general administrative procedures.
