Off licence staff threatened with hammer

Staff at a North Shields off licence were threatened with a hammer on New Year’s Day.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery at T&S Booze Off on Elsdon Terrace, North Shields, which happened at 6.37pm on January 1.

Two men approached the shop and while one waited outside, the other went into the store armed with a hammer.

He threatened the staff member and stole part of the till which was later found discarded inside the shop. The pair left empty handed.

No one was injured during the robbery, but staff were very shaken by the incident.

The offender who went into the shop is described as a white man, 5 feet 9”-10”, of stocky build, wearing dark clothing, including a black hooded top and a black scarf.

Police are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to contact them.
