A special one-day market is returning to Whitley Bay this weekend.
Small local producers will be showcasing their wares at the ‘Love Your Local Market’ event on Saturday, May 17, in the town’s Whitley Road.
Shoppers will be able to sample a huge range of locally-produced goods from more than 30 North Tyneside-based businesses, as well as enjoy a children’s fun fair and street entertainment.
The event takes place from 10am until 4.30pm, and the road will be closed to traffic from 7.30am to 6pm to make way for the marquee.
The Whitley Bay event has been organised by North Tyneside Council and The Business Factory, inspired by the national ‘Love Your Local Market’ initiative – a celebration of the UK’s market culture, which is now in its fourth year.
Paul Buie, head of business and economic development at North Tyneside Council, said: “We are delighted to support this special market, to give some of the new and more established businesses from across the borough an accessible platform to promote their products.
“There is an increasing demand from shoppers for locally-produced goods and this market will provide just that, with a huge array of wares on offer.
“We are also fortunate to have some great independent retailers on our local high streets and events like this help to throw a spotlight on these, as well as attract additional shoppers in to our town centres.”
