Organisation brings culture to under 10s
A COMMUNITY group is branching out into a new section of the community from this weekend.
Whitley Bay-based arts and culture organisation Culture Quarter is launching its CQ Juniors, which will bring culture to under tens and their families, as well as encouraging creative minds.
And their first venture is a craft club – on Saturday, June 20 at CQ:HQ in Marine Avenue – and will be themed around creating Fathers Day cards and gifts as well as other activities.
It will be organised by volunteers Elizabeth Hennessey and Ann Bridges.
Ann said: "Our plan is to have a craft club every six weeks, as well as bringing in other events where parents and their children can enjoy culture together."
Culture Quarter is working with Seven Stories to introduce creative reading workshops in Whitley Bay and has been talking to local dancers, actors and poets about taster sessions for children into their world.
Christine Savage, chair of Culture Quarter, said: "I'm keen to see lots of children enjoying themselves, and for parents to give us their ideas on what they'd like to see their children doing on a weekend."
The craft club has two sessions – from 9.30am to 11am, then 11.30am to 1pm.
Entry is 3.50 per child (discount available for siblings) but free for Culture Quarter members.
Space is limited to 15 children per session so to reserve a place email info@culturequarter.org or telephone (0191) 253 0466.
