Paul gets marathon inspiration from work
A SOCIAL worker has taken his inspiration from work to take up a marathon challenge.
Paul Richardson has secured a place in the London Marathon and is urging other people to join him in supporting the NSPCC.
Paul will be taking to the streets of the capital on April 21 to raise money for the children’s charity.
He said: “In my profession working in children’s services at North Tyneside Council, I have seen the positive impact the therapeutic work that the NSPCC offers and how much this helps looked after children, adopted children and those people who adopt in the north east.
“Lives are really being transformed thanks to this vital work.
“When I saw that the NSPCC had places, there was no doubt in my mind that I had to apply – supporting such a worthwhile cause has really spurred me on in my training.
“I’ve never run 26.2 miles before but I’ve wanted to do the London Marathon for many years.
“I am a member of North Shields Poly Athletics Club and have done the Great North Run and other local races.
“Even though I’ve plenty of running experience, the prospect of 26 miles was daunting at first, but I am following a training plan, steadily building up weekly mileage and absolutely loving it.”
Money raised for the NSPCC through this year’s marathon will help the charity to change and improve the lives of children all year round through its local community services, a helpline for adults worried about a child and ChildLine.
