Pedestrian dies after collision in North Shields

The car involved in an accident in Beach Road, North Shields, in which a pedestrian died.

A PEDESTRIAN has died following a collision with a car in North Shields this morning.

The victim was on Beach Road when the collision took place around 11.30am.

He was taken to the RVI in Newcastle, but died from his injuries.

Sections of the A1058 Beach Road in North Shields are currently closed between the A192 at Tynemouth Pool and the A193 Broadway and will remain closed while an investigation is carried out.

The road is expected to be closed for a few hours and diversions are in place.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191.
