Pedestrian named following fatal collision in North Shields

THE pedestrian killed in the collision on Beach Road in North Shields on Monday has been named today as Roy Toogood MBE.

The 66-year-old was hit by a Vauxhall Corsa at around 11.30 am on Monday February 18 and later died in hospital.

Mr Toogood, of Cullercoats, received his MBE for his work with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 and pass on any information they have.
