Plan for perimiter fence around home rejected

PLANS for a perimeter fence at a house in Whitley Bay have been refused as it would look out of place.

A planning application had been again submitted to North Tyneside Council for a 1.1 metre high timber fence on top of a 0.4 metre wall at a 5 Cragside, in Whitley Lodge.

A previous application in 2004 was refused, and the latest application again resulted in one letter of objection from a neighbour who said it would be out of character with the estate, they would suffer from a loss to outlook and create an unwanted precedent.

Officers told planning committee members that there was already a 1.8 metre high fence at the house but that did not have planning permission.

They also said the house was on a busy wide junction, accessed by five streets, and in a prominent location.

Councillors agreed with planners that the proposal would create an anomaly in the existing street scene and would be out of character with the general open plan nature of the Whitley Lodge estate.
