Police at the scene in Seaton Burn.
POLICE have raided homes in Wallsend as part of their investigation into two shootings in North Tyneside which resulted in two men being gunned down.
On Friday, December 14 a man was shot outside of the Wheatsheaf in Benton when he was walking past the pub car park.
Then on Friday, January 4, a man was shot in the back near to the Six Mile Bridge Inn in Seaton Burn.
Two men were arrested in Wallsend on Thursday evening as part of the investigation into the shooting at Seaton Burn and are helping officers with their enquiries.
Following the arrests, officers carried out searches at addresses in Wallsend, Walker and Newcastle in connection with both the shootings.
Disruption to residents was kept to a minimum and additional officers were in the area to speak with local residents.
Police say further addresses are being visited and searched by officers, and more arrests are expected.
The ongoing investigation continues to focus on internal disputes between criminals in the area.
Superintendent Peter Farrell said: “The small minority who commit crime with guns should be aware of the police response.
“We will be focusing our actions on every aspect of their lifestyle – looking at them, their associates and the places they visit.
“This will continue until we’ve taken every possible measure to bring to justice those involved.”
Anyone with any information in connection with the incidents should contact police on the 101 non-emergency number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
