Shoplifters in the borough are being targeted as part of a police crackdown on thieves.
Officers across North Tyneside are carrying out extra patrols in key shopping areas including town centres at Whitley Bay and North Shields, and retail parks like Silverlink and Royal Quays.
Police are working with shop security staff and Shopwatch schemes to stop known thieves from entering retail areas to prevent offences from taking place.
Extra patrols are also being carried out in town centres, retail areas and supermarkets throughout the borough, while officers are working with security staff and using CCTV to identify and target offenders.
Chief Inspector Jamie Pitt said: “The operation is aimed at preventing offenders from coming into North Tyneside to steal.
“Anyone coming here to commit crime is not welcome and with more than 80 per cent of all shoplifting offences detected across North Tyneside, it is highly likely they will be caught.
“Our officers are working with partners to prevent offences from taking place and making sure robust action is taken when crimes do take place.
