Project highlights all that’s good on estate

A project is hoping to change the stigma and outside perception of a North Shields estate.

Local charity Meadow Well Connected has been running the ‘Bridging the History’ project from its base at The Meadows on the Meadowell estate.

The project was set up following negative feedback from residents after a documentary on the estate.

Sarah Byrne, business co-ordinator, said: “Focus groups took place to help us better understand why the residents were unhappy and how they actually feel about the estate.

“Residents shared amazing stories and decided they would like to take part in a project that reflects the positive aspects of Meadowell.”

A 3D timeline including pictures, memorabilia and videos has been produced thanks to help from Northern Architecture, The Imagine Project and local historian Pat Hope.

An open day to show the community the timeline is taking place at the centre, in Waterville Road, from 1pm on Wednesday, May 28.

Sarah added: “Through publicity it is hoped the project will digitally help in removing the stigma and outside perception for the residents and for the larger community who reside on the Meadowell Estate.”
