An initiative has been started to encourage more people to read and promote a local author.

North Tyneside Council has launched its ‘Summer Read’ for 2014 with the novel ‘GLADIO: We Can Neither Confirm nor Deny’ by Whitley Bay writer Steve Chambers.

From June until September, residents and visitors can pick up a copy of ‘GLADIO’ for £4 from the Customer First Centres at North Shields, Whitley Bay, Wallsend and White Swan Centre in Killingworth.

‘GLADIO’ is Steve’s first novel, a fast-moving and complex thriller based on a real-life conspiracy.

Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “We’re delighted to be once again working with New Writing North to promote local writing. ‘GLADIO’ is a great choice for a summer read and we’re sure our local booklovers will agree.”

The Summer Read campaign culminates in an author event on October 2, at Whitley Bay Customer First Centre at 7pm, when Steve will be interviewed about his book and be available to sign copies.
