MORE than 50 pupils from three borough schools joined forces to plant fruit trees and berry bushes at a North Shields community centre.
They planted 75 trees and 190 bushes around the Meadows Community Centre in Waterville Road as part of a project to encourage biodiversity and protect wildlife.
The schools taking part were St Bernadette’s Primary in Wallsend and Christ Church and Percy Main primaries in North Shields.
The project was funded by a £8,626 grant from the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Project manager Carole Bell said: “The children were so enthusiastic, and we just love getting out there and getting involved.”
