Pupils win name game
Mollie Lanford Hook. Eric Cruice. Chris Nichol.
A RESIDENTIAL home being built in Monkseaton has been given a name by two pupils at a nearby school.
Mollie Lanford Hook, 13, and Chris Nichol, 11, both students at Monkseaton Middle School, were picked as joint winners of a competition to pick a name for the 38-apartment development by McCarthy and Stone in Chapel Lane.
Both suggested Bygate Court after learning that the Vernon Drive school had previously been called Bygate Secondary Modern.
Fiona Brooks, regional sales director for the firm, said: “We pride ourselves on building communities and not just homes, so we always aim to select names that will have real meaning to local residents.
“Being able to work alongside the students at Monkseaton Middle School has helped to gain a better understanding of the community as a whole, and we have been really impressed by the amount of valuable research they put into coming up with names.
“We would like to thank Mollie and Chris for coming up with such a fitting name for our new development.”
