Volunteers at a coastal rescue team hope members of the community will join in raising a glass to mark their 150th anniversary.
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) has joined up with borough-based Mordue Brewery to produce a special anniversary ale ‘Lifesaver 150’.
The ale, due to be available in the near future, is just one of a number of commemorative mementoes and gifts produced across the year.
Members of the TVLB, who were approached by Mordue managing director Garry Fawson with an offer to brew the ale, were recently taken on a tour of the brewery and given a chance to taste the ale.
l Elsewhere, the next ‘150th’ event planned by the TVLB is a wine tasting eventing, jointly organised by the brigade and Port of Tyne harbour master Mike Nicholson. The event will be at the Watch House on Saturday, March 22, at 6.30pm.
Guests will be introduced to six wines – three white and three red – and will have to match the right description to the wine and decide how expensive it is. The guest with the most right answers at the end of the evening will receive a prize while all guests will get a commemorative glass. There will also be a wine-themed raffle.
Tickets cost £20, available from TVLB captain Dave Bell on 07712 880454 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
