A resident has won £100 worth of shopping vouchers after keeping her promise to wash, squash and recycle her waste.

Danielle Taylor, who lives in Killingworth, is the tenth person to be awarded high street vouchers as part of a North Tyneside Council campaign.

The ‘Changing Our Thinking’ rewards and incentives initiative has been up and running since January and aims to improve recycling rates and help to reduce food waste.

Roadshows have been visiting different locations in the borough to provide tips on recycling and making use of leftover food, during which residents are also invited to take a pledge to wash, squash and recycle.

Danielle made her promise at a roadshow in Howdon, and after being named this month’s winner she said: “I was really pleased to win – and being awarded high street vouchers means I can use them where I like, with very few restrictions.

“The campaign is a brilliant idea, after making my pledge, I made a conscious effort to recycle more. It also provides an opportunity to recognise and reward those who have always recycled.”

To make your pledge today, or for more information about the campaign, visit www.northtyneside.gov.uk or call 0345 2000 103.
