Residents join in clean-up on popular borough beach
SCORES of people turned up for an annual event aimed at keeping an award-winning beach clean.
Employees, family and friends from OSG (UK) Ltd turned out at Tynemouth Long Sands last Saturday to take part in the coastal clean-up.
Run in co-ordination with the Marine Conservation Society and Tynemouth Blue Reef Aquarium Centre, the event also saw volunteers from Cullercoats Brownies and the North Tyneside 'Eco Club' help clean the beach of waste and debris.
Around 150 people took part with Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) funding the efforts and providing equipment, food and free entry to the aquarium for all participants.
OSG (UK) Ltd, based in Newcastle, technically manages 40 crude oil and LNG tankers, trading worldwide.
John Mill, OSG's environmental officer, said: "OSG's dedication to protecting the global marine environment remains the same whether we have a tanker in Europe, Asia or the Americas."
