Robbie’s hopes are drained

MOST people get to take a bath in the privacy of their own home – but actor Robbie Lee Hurst will face a crowded audience when he steps into the tub.
But that is only the start of Robbie’s problems, because after his big toe gets wedged in the plughole, he finds himself getting sucked in.
The bizarre turn of events is from Peter Mortimer’s latest absurdist offering The Plughole – Life Goes Down with Drain, which is being premiered with four performances by Cloud Nine Theatre at The Low Lights Tavern, North Shields, at the end of this month.

This is the fourth Cloud Nine offering at the Low Lights, and as usual the piece is preceded by live music from some of the borough’s leading singers and musicians.
“The play is either a deeply metaphysical examination of the human condition, or a study of eccentric plumbing,” said the author, “and I wish I knew which.”
Robbie Lee Hurst has no qualms about the role.
“It’s all part of an actor’s life,” he said.
But will he be in the buff when he gets in that bath?
“That would be telling,” he added.
The play is on from Monday, January 28, to Wednesday, January 30, at 8pm, with live music from The Primates (Monday.), Alan Jones (Tuesday), and Ruth Lambert and Alan Jones (Wednesday).
An extra ‘early bird’ performance with soup and a roll is being staged on the Monday at 6pm.
