A borough rowing club is hoping past and present members will be able to come together to help celebrate an oar-some achievement.

Preparations have begun at Tynemouth Rowing Club to mark the 150th anniversary in 2017.

The club, based at Tynemouth Haven near the mouth of the Tyne, was founded on March 13, 1867.

Current president Allen Lambert, who has been a member for 40 years, is hoping to hear from former members of relatives ahead of the celebrations.

He said: “We are very interested in building up a contact list so we can obtain members of the club to enlarge our history for future generations. It will be available before we celebrate our 150th anniversary.

“We’re trying to look into why the rowing club was set up.

“We’re hoping we can build up the information and the history over the three years.”

An event is taking place at the rowing club between noon and 1pm on Sunday, March 16, for anyone who has information on the club or is keen to get involved.

Anyone who has information should contact Allen on (0191) 259 6360 or email allen525@tiscali.co.uk
