An unused area at a North Shields school has been given a new lease of life – and it is already a success with pupils.
A new storytelling area has been created at Percy Main Primary School in Nelson Terrace featuring images, a huge storytelling tree and a storyteller’s chair, which is the focal point of the section.
Staff at the school commissioned a costume designer to create the storyteller’s cape and professional storyteller Chris Bostock visited the school last week to share his storytelling experiences with the children and their parents.
He also officially opened the new area.
A school spokesperson said: “The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell the listener how to think, but rather to give the audience questions to think upon.
“The school is confident that this newly decorated storytelling area will quickly become a very popular and valuable source of inspiration its pupils.”
