Seafront start for annual vintage bus rally
A FREE trip back in time is being offered this weekend as a vintage bus rally motors back into North Tyneside.
The Whitley Bay Vintage Bus Rally – organised by North Tyneside Council and the North East Bus Preservation Trust – is returning for a seventh time.
It is being held on Sunday, July 19, at Bournemouth Gardens car park, on The Links.
The event will give visitors the chance to take free nostalgic rides along the seafront, on some of the 40 or more classic buses expected to be on show between 10am and 4pm.
The route will take passengers from the car park, north to Delaval Arms roundabout, and return south along the seafront to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth, and then back through Whitley Bay town centre.
Passengers are free to get off and on at any stop along the route, including at the Childhood Memories Toy Museum.
Additionally, Go North East will be running modern buses to and from the rally site to the Stephenson Railway Museum, although steam train rides have been postponed until next month due to technical difficulties.
Stalls will be selling bus related memorabilia at the rally site.
