Kerry Watts, a night nurse practitioner at North Tyneside General Hospital, decided to put her interest in cooking down on paper.

After working for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for 13 years, Kerry put her culinary talents to the test and asked fellow staff to submit their own recipe ideas.

Kerry’s Charity Cookbook contains more than 50 recipes including chief matron Juile Gibson’s ‘Beetroot chutney’, consultant pharmacist Steve Williamson’s ‘Mexican chocolate chicken’ and medical director David Evan’s ‘Ever so slightly posh baked salmon’.

More than 100 books – priced £3.99 from the trust’s Hospital Volunteer Shops – have been sold, raising money for the trust’s Bright Charity.

Kerry said: “I wanted to do something which would help give something back for our patients but which also could involve colleagues to share their own recipe ideas.

“We are also keen to stress the importance of a health, balanced lifestyle so we have also included some practical tips for a healthy diet from the trust’s lead nutritionist.

“Judging by the success so far, I’m sure many people will have enjoyed our tasty suggestions.”

Ian McMinn, chairman of the trust’s charitable funds committee, said: “It is always great to see staff getting involved with the Bright Charity and doing their bit to help raise money which benefits their patients.

“On behalf of the committee I would like to thank Kerry for her excellent culinary contributions.”
