Shots fired in Newcastle’s China Town

Police have arrested a man in Newcastle after shots were fired in Stowell Street in the early hours of this morning.

At 4.25am this morning, Friday, March 7, police were informed a car was driving the wrong way on a one way street on Stowell Street near The Gate.

The driver then fired shots into the air before leaving the area.

The shots were not fired at anyone, and no-one was injured.

A short time later police were informed the same car had pointed what is believed to have been a handgun at a taxi driver, but no shots were fired.

It has not yet been established whether the weapon was real or imitation and no-one has been injured in the incident.
