Cadets were given a generous welcome by football fans as they marked being the best squadron in the country.

Members of 2344 (Longbenton) Squadron paraded at St James’ Park after winning the Lees Trophy.

The Squadron paraded with their silverware, with the squadron band performing Local Hero, and Blaydon Races in front of the 51,000.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Chloe Durham, 19, of Forest Hall, said: “It was an amazing feeling when we were announced as the winners, but to have marched with the trophy around St James’ Park has taken it to another level.

“The standing ovation and roar of applause was incredible.”

Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said: “It’s the first time the Lees Trophy has been brought to Tyneside so to bring it to St James’ Park after receiving it in the heart of Longbenton, is very special.”
