A great grandad from Whitley Bay has thanked the complete strangers who saved his life.
George John had been for a walk with wife Ann, but on their way home the 80-year-old had a sudden cardiac arrest and he was ‘completely out of it’.
Ann flagged down a passing car in Burnside Road, and by sheer luck it had two off duty firefighters in Keven and Graham McDonald and they were able to start CPR on George.
While the emergency services were on their way, Peter Burden and Michael Vine, both nurses, also offered assistance, along with teacher Kristian Grundy.
Lourdes Menodin and Carolyn Millar also helped out.
George said: “I am tremendously grateful to them all, they saved my life.
“The doctors said if it wasn’t for those people I would have died.”
After a short stay in hospital, George is recovering from his ordeal at home.
