An attempt to break a world record is taking place in Tynemouth this weekend.
A group of footballers are aiming to break the Guinness World Record attempt for the longest game of five-a-side football.
The game will kick-off in the sports hall at Kings Priory School with players hoping to end at around 4pm on Tuesday, February 18.
The team – Geology George and Co, made up of pupils from the school – are aiming to surpass the current record of 53 hours, set by footballers from Sodexo Ireland last June, with an attempt to play for 55 hours.
Team coach Morgan Saunders said: “We would love to see as much support as possible to cheer on the players, for what promises to be a great event.
“It will be a real test of endurance and teamwork to keep playing for almost two-and-a-half days.”
The team are raising funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Anyone who would like to sponsor them should visit www.justgiving.com/5-A-Side-GWR.
