A TEENAGER from Whitley Bay has had the chop in aid of a children’s charity.

Sophia Lawson, of Whitley Road, has raised £400 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, with money still coming in, after having her beloved locks cut short.

The 16-year-old Whitley Bay High School student is also donating 12 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment as well as children with alopecia.

Sophia, who had been growing her hair for over three years before she got the chop, said: “One of my friends was very ill as a baby and would have died without their help.

“I really like working with children and so children’s charities are very important to me.” Sophia had her hair cut short at Aphrodite’s Boutique in Station Road, Whitley Bay.
