A TALENTED youngster from Whitley Bay has this week launched her first single.

Fourteen-year-old Shauna Gallon has appeared alongside a number of stars including Joe McElderry, and performed a moving version of country music ballad Concrete Angel to an audience of NSPCC supporters on Monday to launch the charity track.

After winning the opportunity to record a single in a national talent competition last year, Shauna immediately decided to donate all profits from her release to the NSPCC to help raise awareness of child abuse and neglect.

With her Mum’s love of country music a big influence, performing a cover version of American music star Martina McBride’s Concrete Angel seemed a natural choice for Shauna.

Shauna, who has been singing since she was four, said: “I’ve loved singing since I was tiny and for as long as I can remember listening to country music has been a big part of my life.

“It’s just amazing to have come this far and to see my single for sale.

“We had a brilliant time recording the song, but the best thing is to know that every time it sells I’m helping other teenagers.

“Concrete Angel is all about a young girl who suffers from abuse. By recording the single I want to support the NSPCC and also give teenagers who are being abused the confidence to speak out about what is happening to them.”

Shauna recorded the single at North Shields based Notes Studio.

Studio manager Martin O’Nions said: “Everybody at today’s launch was blown away by Shauna’s performance.

“Her voice is exceptional and it’s been fabulous to be able to work with her. The single is only the start – she is definitely one to watch.”

NSPCC community fundraising manager, Ben Margetts, added: “That this is Shauna’s very first single makes her decision to donate the profits from it to the NSPCC really special.

“We really hope that lots of people in the north east will show their support for Shauna and for our work by downloading Concrete Angel from Itunes, Amazon or Emusic.com.

“It is only thanks to the kind support of people like Shauna, her family and those who download the single that we can carry on our vital work in the north east and across the UK to keep vulnerable children safe from harm.”

Shauna Gallon’s cover version of Concrete Angel and B-Side Never Alone cost 69p each and are available to download from.amazon.co.uk/Concrete-Angel/dp/B00ARLDVQW
