A North Shield’s youngster has been awarded the highest commendation for young people for his outstanding contribution to the community.

Cameron Lloyd, 16, from St Thomas More RC Academy, received the North Tyneside Commendation Award from chairman Coun Tommy Mulvenna.

Cameron, who supports his parents to look after his younger brothers and sisters after school, recently received an award for his ‘selflessness’ from his school, after his voluntary trip to Tanzania last summer where he saved a girl’s life when she suffered a severe epileptic fit.

Cameron is returning to Tanzania this summer after raising £2,000 through fundraising activities.

Cameron said: “To receive the chairman’s award is absolutely incredible, I’m completely overwhelmed.

“I’ve learnt so much from working within the community in North Shields, and even more by visiting Tanzania last year.

“ I never thought I would get an opportunity to do the things I did over there, and help all the people I did.

“It was a life-changing experience, and I’m so excited to go back and make a bigger difference this year.”
