A photographer from Wallsend has been named a regional winner in a nationwide competition.

Civil servant Ann Chapman came top in the wetland wildlife category of the contest, run by Tyne and Wear Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust with a picture of a black-necked swan cygnet, right.

She now goes through to the national finals in the autumn.

“I have always enjoyed photographing wildlife, especially birds. I typically take hundreds of photos everywhere I go,” said the 50-year-old.
