John Cook's picture At the mouth of the Tyne was a winner in Whitley Bay Photographic Society's competition.

THE river Tyne was in the frame for the latest projected image competition at the Whitley Bay Photographic Society.

The subject was ideal for vice-president Andrew Nicoll, whose picture ‘QE2 Leaves the Tyne forever’ won the advanced section, while his other entry ‘Fog on the Tyne’ was awarded fifth place.

The other three places in this section were won by Richard Narcoss, Peter Craig and David Parkinson.

Richard and David also had an entry which was highly commended, as did Tom Dyer and Stephen Conaty.

Meanwhile, the club section attracted entries of excellent quality, including John Cook’s winning image, ‘At the mouth of the Tyne’.

John was also awarded second and third place, while the other two places went to Brian Loan and David McAllister.

Jan Clements’s entry was highly commended.

The judge was Ron Henry, of the Gosforth Photographic Society, who agreed to take over at short notice following a cancellation.

Ron gave an excellent appraisal of each picture and it was an enjoyable and instructive evening for all members.

The Whitley Bay Photographic Society meet every Tuesday at 7.30pm at 3, Waverley Avenue, near Monkseaton Metro station.

New and prospective members welcome.
